History of the Paco de Lucía Festival in Mallorca

The Paco de Lucía Mallorca Festival was born in 2022 with the purpose of celebrating and honoring the figure of the legendary guitarist Paco de Lucía, declared an adopted son of the island by the Consell de Mallorca in 2014. In fact, the great master spent his last years on the island, where he composed and recorded his last work, ‘Canción Andaluza’, recognized with a Grammy Award for best album of the year.

Founded by Soledad Bescós, the Paco de Lucía Mallorca Festival – the only one with his name agreed upon with the Paco de Lucía Foundation that is held annually – determines its charitable nature in favor of the Foundation: the funds obtained preserve the artist’s legacy, and through programs that apply pedagogical innovation to musical education, training is facilitated for talented individuals with difficulties accessing it.

Mallorca has a foundation of all the Mediterranean cultures of centuries that must be preserved to never stop being a place to dream and play the guitar. In Mallorca I found the magic and inspiration to work, in addition to the peace, serenity, and tranquility that I had been looking for for years. I’m not moving anymore’

In 2025, the festival is consolidated in its fourth edition
as an essential event for lovers
of culture and flamenco – intangible
heritage of humanity – and celebrates the
universality of Paco de Lucía’s music and its
ability to move the most disparate
sensibilities.

La FundaciónPaco de Lucía

The Paco de Lucía Foundation was born with the aim of contributing to what was Paco de Lucía’s great purpose: to give flamenco the international prestige it deserves. To achieve this purpose, the foundation has the mission of exploring, understanding, and disseminating the figure of the master through his testimony – musical and human – to continue enriching flamenco from the artist’s perspective.

The foundation develops relevant projects for anyone who wants to approach or deepen their knowledge of flamenco culture through music and its border arts. New generations, followers and scholars of Paco de Lucía, recognized and emerging professional artists, amateurs, researchers and professionals in information and education, disadvantaged people or groups, or international visitors. The open, hybrid, and accessible nature of the foundation offers space for all audiences.
